The Puerto Princesa Underground River

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park in Palawan features a limestone mountain with an 8.2 km. long underground river. Only 4 km of the underground river is navigable because beyond that distance, oxygen is in low supply. Inside the cave, stalactites and stalagmites have formed into interesting shapes, some resembling fruits, vegetables, animals, and human figures. Bats and swiftlets inhabit the dark cave.

The inside of the cave was so dark and smelled of bird and bat droppings and in some parts, small waterfalls drip from the dome of the cave. While our boatman cum tourist guide point to us some interesting rock formations, I gaze in wonder and praise God for this natural wonder. The Puerto Princesa Underground River truly deserve to be one of the 7 New Wonders of the World.
