The world-renowned Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan, Philippines is about two hour drive away from the province's city proper. Despite the distance, we were excited to take the trip. Through a local travel agency, we arranged for a day trip to the subterranean river. We were aboard a van throughout the two hour trip but we were entertained by our knowledgeable tourist guide who gave us a history of the city. Along the way we saw forests, mangrove farms, fields, and the distant bay.

Finally, we reached Sabang Port where we would take a 20-minute boat ride to reach the underground river. This white beach is without exaggeration, truly breathtaking. The boat ride increased our excitement as we saw islands lined with coconut trees and fabulous rock formations surrounded by the emerald sea. As soon as we landed on the beach that leads to the underground river, we took a photo with the limestone cliff behind us as the background. With the blue sky above us, the playful, emerald sea to our left, the white sand on our feet, and the gray cliff with green foliage behind our back--the scene was just perfect.
On my next post, I'll share more about the Puerto Princesa Underground River.
