Side Trip to Guimaras

Two years ago, I was in Iloilo on an official trip with a curriculum specialist. But when we heard that Guimaras Island is only a few minutes away by boat, we took advantage of our free three hours to do a side trip. Even without a planned itinerary, we were able to have a short and quick trip to the island's capital, Jordan, courtesy of our eager tricycle driver cum tourist guide. For a fee the tricycle driver, whom we met at the sea port, offered to bring us to nearby places of interest. And here are what we saw in Jordan, Guimaras Island.

The smallest plaza in the Philippines is in Guimaras

The Trappist Monastery

The Trappist monks make and sell mango products like mango jam and mango otap. Guimaras Island is the Mango Capital of the Philippines.

A side trip, though quick, is nonetheless another opportunity to see new places and meet interesting people. Next time you have an extra hour, don't hesitate to go on a side trip.
