Davao Delight

Davao City is a delight for many reasons. It's home to the Philippines' tallest peak, Mt. Apo, and a refuge for the endangered Philippine monkey-eating eagle. Aldevinco in the junction of Claro M. Recto and Manuel Roxas Avenues is a shopper's haven for shawls, bags, jewelries, and other ethnic products. Plus the city is a No Smoking Zone. But what I also enjoyed in Davao when I visited the city for a work-related trip two years ago was the abundance of fruits.

Durian and lanzones

Our friends from a local travel agency treated us with the smelly but creamy durian at the Magsaysay Fruit Market where we ate the so called king of the fruits with hands covered in plastic so the pungent smell won't stick to our hands. But at Bangkerohan Public Market, our eyes feasted on the sight of fruits, a few of them not often found outside of Davao. Of course, there's the durian, mangosteen, marang, lanzones, pomelo, and a round green fruit that resembles a coconut that's called miracle fruit. Fruits in Davao are cheap because they're abundant in the area. And they're very delicious too! Of course, I didn't leave Davao without tasting the famous durian shake and its variation durian-apple-mango shake. Truly refreshing!

If you're thinking of a place to visit, put Davao on your list. Let Davao delight you too.
